Certified Flooring Inspection
NALFA Certified Laminate Floor Inspection in Southern California
Professional laminate flooring inspection to NALFA standards. Diagnosis of peaking, gapping, moisture-related swelling, locking system failure, and subfloor compliance with written forensic reports.
About This Service
Laminate flooring is engineered to be durable, affordable, and resistant to wear — but it is also one of the most moisture-sensitive flooring products on the market. When laminate fails, the cause is almost always traceable to moisture exposure, subfloor non-compliance, or installation error.
My Floor Inspection provides NALFA-certified (North American Laminate Flooring Association) laminate floor inspections throughout Southern California — including Los Angeles County, Orange County, San Diego County, Riverside County, and the Inland Empire. Our evaluations are conducted against NALFA installation guidelines, manufacturer specifications, and ASTM testing protocols, producing forensic reports that meet the requirements of warranty claims, insurance proceedings, and legal disputes.
What This Inspection Covers
Issues & Disputes We Resolve
Why It Matters
Laminate manufacturers frequently deny warranty claims by attributing failures to moisture exposure or installation error — even when the failure results from product defects or subfloor conditions outside the installer's control. An independent NALFA-certified inspection provides the objective evidence needed to establish the actual cause and resolve the dispute.
Frequently Asked Questions
What causes laminate flooring to peak or swell?
Laminate peaking and swelling are almost always caused by moisture exposure. The high-density fiberboard core of laminate flooring absorbs moisture from the subfloor, air, or spills, causing it to expand. Since laminate flooring requires expansion gaps at all perimeters, inadequate expansion space or excessive moisture causes the boards to peak and lift at the joints.
Is laminate flooring waterproof?
No. Despite marketing claims, laminate flooring is not waterproof. The surface wear layer is water-resistant, but the fiberboard core absorbs moisture readily. Even small amounts of water from mopping, spills, or subfloor vapor can cause irreversible swelling. A certified inspection determines whether moisture was the cause and identifies the source.
What is NALFA certification and why does it matter?
NALFA (North American Laminate Flooring Association) certification means the inspector has completed specialized training in laminate flooring installation standards, failure analysis, and inspection protocols. NALFA certification is recognized by manufacturers, courts, and insurance companies as establishing professional competence for laminate floor inspections.
