ASTM F2170 is the gold standard for measuring moisture within concrete slabs. It uses sensors embedded in drilled holes to measure relative humidity at 40% slab depth — the depth most predictive of actual flooring performance. Most flooring manufacturers require ASTM F2170 test results as part of their installation warranty.
How long does ASTM F2170 testing take?
ASTM F2170 requires sensors to equilibrate in the slab for a minimum of 72 hours before reading. Our process includes sensor installation on the first visit, a return visit for readings, and a written report with results.
Is pre-installation moisture testing required?
Pre-installation moisture testing is required by the written specifications of virtually every major flooring manufacturer as a condition of their warranty. It is also required by NWFA guidelines for hardwood flooring and TCNA guidelines for tile. Contractors who skip this step are installing non-compliantly.
